The meeting on Friday is part of consultations that were announced by the federal government back in December.
The federal government has promised to have an ongoing dialogue with First Nations on a number of issues including jobs and education.
The Saskatoon meeting is the second on aboriginal education to be held around the country.
The aim is to improve educational outcomes for First Nations students and explore current funding arrangements.
Educators, First Nations leaders and representatives from the federal government are attending, but the event is closed to the media and the public.
Note to readers: This is a corrected story. An earlier version said the meeting was the result of discussions between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Assembly of First Nations Chief Shawn Atleo in Ottawa on Jan. 11.
