VANCOUVER — Hundreds of bikers, friends and relatives of prominent Hells Angel Bob Green made their way to south Vancouver’s Fraserview Hall on Saturday for a celebration of his life.

Green was killed in Langley on Oct. 16 during an all-night party at the clubhouse of the 856 Gang.

856 Gang member Jason Wallace turned himself in to police the next day and has been charged with second-degree murder.

Green, 56, was a giant in the Hells Angels — influential, powerful and charismatic.

Bouquets of flowers and wreaths arrived at the hall from around the world. Vancouver Police kept an eye on the funeral service from across the street. Yellow tape was put up along Fraser Street so the Harleys arriving in a giant procession from Lower Mainland Hells Angels clubhouses would have somewhere to park.

Staff Sgt. Randy Fincham said officers are only present to ensure public safety.

“As the Hells Angels are a criminal organization, the VPD has plans in place to reduce the risk to the public. Public safety remains our primary concern,” Fincham said.

Green’s funeral was expected to be one of the biggest Hells Angels events held in B.C. since the biker gang formed here in 1983. His Hells Angels brothers started a ride in his honour hours before the 1 p.m. service, meeting at the Coquitlam clubhouse owned by the Vancouver chapter, before heading to the East End chapter and on to a banquet hall.

Some were wearing patches of other gangs such as the Throttle Lockers and the Syndicate, as well as Hells Angel vests from Albert and Manitoba.

There have been shootings and murders since Green’s murder. Investigators are looking to see if there are links between the acts of violence.
