VANCOUVER - The B.C. government will outline a strategy today of how it wll move toward a 10-year contract with the province's teachers and possibly achieve long-term labour peace in the process.

Premier Christy Clark and Education Minister Don McRae will make an announcement at a Surrey elementary school this morning.

The government said last fall it wanted to fix its decades-long dysfunctional bargaining relationship with the B.C. Teachers Federation.

Clark said then the goal was to make legislative changes in the spring sitting of the legislature, around the time of the provincial election and when the teachers' current contract expires.

The BCTF spent most of the last school year in job action before its union members reluctantly agreed to a new one-year contract ending June 2013.

Union president Susan Lambert has said the problems go much deeper than the union-employer bargaining structure.
