Michael Dunahees mother hopes a new book about her son raises awareness about missing children.
Im still working my way through the book, Crystal Dunahee said Friday of Vanished! The Michael Dunahee Story. Obviously, its very emotional. I find it really pulls on the heartstrings.
The book, which chronicles the disappearance and search for four-year-old Michael in Victoria in 1991, was written with the familys consent and co-operation. The cover shows Michael as a child and a composite portrait of what he might look like today.
The case sparked one of the biggest police investigations in Canadian history, but no trace of Michael has been found.
The author, Saanich writer Valerie Green, has written more than
15 books, seven of which are historical non-fiction. She is also a freelance journalist.
Vanished was launched Friday night at an event benefiting Child Find B.C., part of a national network of non-profit organizations dedicated to finding missing children. Half the proceeds of the book, which will be sold in Victoria bookstores, will go to Child Find B.C., of which Dunahee is president.
