The first phase of the E&N Rail Trail’s Humpback Connector is under construction in Esquimalt and View Royal.
Scansa Construction is building two sections — between Admirals and Maplebank roads in Esquimalt and from Hallowell Road to the Four Mile bridge in View Royal — as part of the project’s first phase.
The $1.96-million contract for these sections — part of the 14.3-kilometre Phase 1 route from Victoria to Langford — is expected to be completed in six months.
The Humpback Connector will be built largely within the rail corridor in Victoria, Esquimalt, View Royal and Langford. It will also include cycling lanes on streets.
The trail will form a key part of the Capital Regional District’s trail network, said Laurie Sthamann, CRD Parks spokeswoman.
