Woman’s body found in Puntledge River at Courtenay

Comox Valley RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating after a woman’s body was found in Courtenay’s Puntledge River. The body was found on May 31 at about 7:30 p.m. near 3rd Street and Harmston Avenue.

The body was found on May 31 at about 7:30 p.m. near 3rd Street and Harmston Avenue.

Police and the coroner are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding her death. RCMP have not said if they suspect foul play.

An autopsy will be carried out this week to determine the cause of death, said Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni.

Police do not know when the woman went into the water so they’re looking for any witnesses who might have seen something suspicious in the area on May 31 or the days leading up to it.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding this incident. If someone drove, cycled, or walked in this area and noticed anything suspicious, please contact our Major Crime Unit,” Terragni said.

The woman’s identity has not been released.
