Fire crews attended the scene of a fire at the ABC Restaurant at Cloverdale and Blanshard streets.

A Saanich woman and her two small children escaped unharmed after fire broke out in the bedroom of their home in the Carey Lane complex on Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews saw smoke and flames shooting out the second-floor bedroom window when they arrived at the housing complex at 3910 Carey Rd., said Saanich Battalion Chief Dave Bury.

“Crews were able to knock it down very quickly. They did a good job,” Bury said.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

A fire inspector was on the way to the home on Saturday evening.

“We’re probably looking at about $100,000 damage,” Bury said. “There was lots of smoke damage.”

There was a working smoke detector in the house.

Carey Road between Tillicum Road and Ralph Street was closed for about an hour.
