The 28-year-old woman who died after a fall from a cliff at the Sooke Potholes on Saturday had lost her footing on a rocky ledge, says the B.C. Coroners Service.

Alysha Buzzeo, 28, lived in Sooke and often walked in the regional park, according to social-media posts.

On the night of Aug. 13, Buzzeo was at the Sooke Potholes Regional Park with her spouse, said coroner Matt Brown.

Just after 8 p.m., the two were sitting on a moss- and dry-grass-covered rocky ledge overlooking the potholes, north of the old lodge ruins and near the upper parking lot. At one point, Buzzeo stood and lost her footing.

She fell from the cliff about 12 metres to the rocks below. She died before emergency responders arrived.

According to Facebook posts, Buzzeo moved to Victoria from Edmonton in 2015 and explored many of the parks, trails and beaches on the West Shore.

Her partner posted: “My wife of ten years died last night... I don’t know how I can keep on without [her]. I don’t know what to do. She was my world. She meant everything in the whole world to [me].”

This is the first death at the Sooke Potholes in several years.

In 2011, the body of a 34-year-old woman was found after an accidental drowning.
