A mother and her sleeping four-year-old escaped a head-on collision without injury Wednesday morning even though the 1998 Dodge Caravan they were in was totalled.

A westbound sports utility vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane on Highway 14, just west of Connie Road in Sooke, lost control and narrowly missed three other vehicles before colliding with the minivan, said Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Wright. The incident occurred at 9:05 a.m.

The woman declined to be taken to hospital.

“Fortunately, her son was in a child’s seat in the back and slept through it,” Wright said.

Sooke RCMP are looking for witnesses, and ask anyone with information to call Cons. Jason From at 250-642-5241.
