Nanaimo RCMP are looking for the driver of a pickup truck that allegedly struck an 80-year-old woman in a crosswalk at Selby and Fitzwilliam streets, then left the scene.

The woman was not seriously hurt in the April 17 incident. She called police later in the day and told them that she had been in the crosswalk when a late-model white pickup knocked her to the ground.

She said she got to her feet and the driver asked if she was OK, to which she replied that she wasn’t. At that point, the truck drove off.

Later in the day, a relative took her to the hospital where she was treated for bumps and bruises.

She could not provide a further description of the driver or the truck, but said there were several people nearby — none of whom offered to help her.

Anyone with information is asked to call 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or go to nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
