Environment Canada issued snowfall and wind warnings for eastern Vancouver Island Sunday evening. The wind warning is for Greater Victoria, snowfall for the Nanaimo and Comox areas.
Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are forecast for Monday morning, easing by the afternoon. Gusts are expected to be strongest near Juan de Fuca Strait. Expect west winds of 50 to 70 km/h in the morning and early afternoon. Wet snow is expected at higher elevations in the early morning. The day's forecast high is 6°C.
Rain and showers are forecast for Greater Victoria the rest of the week.
Snow accumulations of between five and 15 centimetres are forecast for the Nanaimo region. By early Monday, about 15 centimetres of snow accumulation was already reported in the Comox area, Environment Canada said.
The snow is expected to end Monday morning.
