Victoria police are looking to identify a boy who appeared to be alone in a shopping mall on Friday.

Patrol officers went to Mayfair Shopping Centre about 5 p.m. after someone called in concerned about the welfare of a child.

The caller told officers he saw a boy of about eight alone in the food court. When he went up to ask if the boy was OK, the boy ran away through the mall parking lot.

The boy was wearing black pants with stripes down the side, a puffy grey jacket, and a blue T-shirt. He was carrying a black Thrifty Foods bag.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and could not see a parent or guardian with the child.

“While there have been no missing children matching this description reported to us, out of an abundance of caution, police are requesting the assistance of the public to identify the boy and his parents,” Const. Matt Rutherford said.

Victoria police ask anyone who knows the boy or his parents to call the non-emergency number at 250-995-7654.
