Victoria police have located 52-year-old Sylvie Tremblay, who had been missing since April 26.

After searching for several days, police found her camping on a small island off Victoria that can be reached on foot only during certain tides.

Victoria police Const. Mark Buerfeind acted on tips generated by a call for public help to narrow the search down to a particular area. He then spoke with more than 40 people in the vicinity before noticing that a series of islands nearby had become accessible with a change in tide.

That prompted him to search the islands, where he found Tremblay. She was taken to hospital for assessment.

Police did not give the exact location of the islands in order to protect Tremblay’s privacy in case she returns there.

The search also involved checking with hospitals, shelters and social agencies to piece together her actions.
