Victoria police had a busy St. Patrick’s Day, with 88 calls for service between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Five of those calls were for fights, while 16 were for intoxicated people in public. There were also two calls about assaults and one about an impaired driver.

In comparison, a busy New Year’s Eve typically results in between 100 and 130 calls for service in Victoria. An average night has about 60 calls for service.

Officers responded to several calls about a man attempting to take over other drivers’ vehicles — including at least one bus. The same man also tried to enter a home that was not his.

The man was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Victoria police said there was some indication that his erratic behaviour was the result of intoxication or mental-health issues.
