Victoria man was assaulted before he went missing, police say

New details have spurred the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crimes Unit to get involved in a missing-person case.

Dana (Dan) McKellar, 51, of Victoria, was reported missing on Sept. 2. He was last seen about three weeks earlier on Dallas Road near Menzies Street.

Officers have learned that McKellar was assaulted July 30 on Speed Avenue, near Mayfair Shopping Centre, prompting the involvement of the major crimes unit.

McKellar is described as white, five-foot-seven and 180 pounds.

Detectives ask anyone who witnessed the assault or has information on McKellar’s whereabouts to contact the department at 250-995-7654.
