A 42-year-old Victoria man suffered a broken arm and ribs after a late afternoon motorcycle accident in Gordon Head.

The man, who holds a motorcycle learner’s licence, was riding a new 2013 Harley Davidson just before 4 p.m., heading east in the 1900 block of Grandview Drive.

Witnesses reported the driver seemed to misjudge a left curve and was riding too far to the right. The motorcycle footpeg made contact with a curb, causing the rider to lose control. The motorcycle fell over and the driver was ej fall off the bike, Saanich police said in a statement. Paramedics took the man to Victoria General Hospital for treatment.

Police said driver inexperience and improper handling of the bike were believed to have been contributing factors.

The driver was not charged and was complying with all learner’s restrictions, including riding within sight of a qualified motorcyclist.
