Victoria police are investigating two daytime robberies, trying to determine whether they are linked.

At 2:25 p.m. Thursday, a man wearing sun glasses and a black baseball cap walked into the Mac’s convenience store at 265 Menzies St. in James Bay and demanded cash, said Staff Sgt. Matt Waterman.

The man left with an undisclosed amount of money and ran toward Simcoe Street, Waterman said. Witnesses believe he got into an awaiting vehicle. Officers searched the area, but were not immediately able to find the man.

A man was arrested Thursday night after West Shore RCMP spotted a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle.

On Wednesday, a masked man entered the Petro-Canada gas station on Fairfield Road and demanded cash. He fled on foot.

Investigators are looking for any links between the cases, Waterman said.

Victoria police ask anyone with information to call them at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
