A cyclist was taken to hospital in Victoria this afternoon after colliding with a van door. The woman in her 20s was heading west on Pandora Avenue just past Vancouver Street about 1:15 p.m. when the driver of a white van parked on the side of the road opened his door, said Victoria police traffic investigator Const. Neil Lundin.

The woman slammed into the door and fell off the bike. Paramedics arrived and took the woman to Victoria General Hospital with injuries to her head, arms and legs.

The driver was given an $81 ticket for opening his door when unsafe. Lundin said it’s a reminder for drivers to do a quick shoulder check for cyclists before opening the doors.
