A Victoria man in his 30s remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Victoria General Hospital after being struck on his bicycle by a van Monday.
The collision occurred at Bay and Blanshard streets yesterday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. The intersection was closed until 10 p.m. as police investigated what happened.
The cyclist, who was riding a bicycle equipped with a trailer, has very serious head injuries, said Const. Mike Russell, Victoria police spokesman. The female driver of the green mini-van was questioned by Victoria police and released.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash, including whether the cyclist was wearing a helmet. There was a helmet at the scene but it’s not clear if the man had it on.
Preliminary interviews with witnesses were inconclusive, said Russell, because accounts of the crash were inconsistent.
