Police say alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle crash that shut down Sooke Road for several hours on Wednesday.

The driver, the vehicle’s lone occupant, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Sooke RCMP Staff Sgt. Jeff McArthur said the vehicle left the road about 11:45 a.m. between Gillespie and Connie roads and sheared off a utility pole. The pole fell directly across Sooke Road, bringing down wires and spilling the contents of a transformer onto the pavement, McArthur said.

Traffic was diverted using Kangaroo and East Sooke roads.
