Police believe someone opened a tap on the 12th floor of the Hudson Mews condominiums on late Sunday or early Monday, causing damage to the entire building.

Vandals who flooded the newly constructed Hudson Mews building on Fisgard Street caused $40,000 in damage, say police.

Crews arrived at the construction site Monday morning to find water flooding the building, located just east of the Hudson building, said Victoria police spokesman Const. Mike Russell.

Police believe someone opened a tap on the 12th floor either late Sunday or early Monday, causing damage to the entire building.

The building is vacant but the lower floors were nearing completion, Russell said.

Police are looking for witnesses who might have seen any suspicious activity on Fisgard or Herald streets between Douglas and Blanshard streets. Police can be contacted at 250-995-7654 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
