Two women who came to the assistance of a suicidal man will be honoured by Victoria police during a ceremony this morning.

Lorna Partridge, 61, and Janine Reitsma, 27 will be awarded Victoria Police Department’s civic service award for their quick actions, said Const. Mike Russell.

Partridge was waking through Beacon Hill Park at about 1 p.m. on Jan. 19 when she saw a man in his 40s who was unconscious, having just tried to kill himself, police said.

Partridge called out for help and Reitsma, who was nearby, came running.

The two women supported the unresponsive man and called 911.

Police and B.C. Ambulance paramedics arrived quickly and were able to save the man’s life, police said.

The victim was admitted to hospital for physical and psychological help and today is healthy, said Russell.

The civic service award is given to community and police department members who perform “outstanding service” for the citizens of Victoria and Esquimalt, police said.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. today at Victoria police headquarters.
