Two skydivers break bones in hard landing at Oak Bay Tea Party

Two skydivers suffered broken bones after a rogue gust of wind caused their parachutes to collapse during the air show section of the Oak Bay Tea Party on Sunday afternoon. One broke a femur and the other an ankle.

Hundreds of people enjoying the annual festival watched as the two skydivers fell from about 20 feet up and landed hard on the beach about 3:20 p.m.
Volunteers from St. John Ambulance ran over to the two men and treated them for their injuries.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics and Oak Bay Fire arrived on scene and took the two men to hospital.
The skydivers are with Capital City Skydive, which has participated in the Oak Bay Tea Party since 1971. Two other skydivers landed without incident just before them.
