A devastating fire raced through a Campbell River house on Sunday shortly after noon.

Two people inside the home escaped without injuries and called 911, CHEK News said. A kitten that had been inside the house is missing.

When Campbell River Fire Department arrived the fire was fully involved, Fire Chief Thomas Doherty said. It was put out by the 18 firefighters present, CHEK said.

The house in the 2200-block of Joanne Drive, in the southern part of Campbell River, was substantially damaged. It will be checked for structural stability, CHEK said. No damage estimate was immediately available.

CHEK reported that the fire did not appear suspicious. The cause is being investigated.

A neighbouring house sustained some heat damage to its exterior vinyl. No one was home.
