Staff at the Saanich pound are looking for anyone who saw two dogs attack a deer on Tuesday.

The pound was called about 1:30 p.m. about two large dogs chasing and setting upon a deer on Gordon Head Road near San Juan Avenue.

Staff arrived to find a buck so badly hurt that it had to be put down. The dogs, which looked like Samoyeds — fluffy and white — could not be found.

Pound inspector Sue Ryan said such attacks are rare.

Animal control officers would like to speak to whomever owns the dogs about controlling and containing them, Ryan said. The dogs have not been the subject of any prior reports, she said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the pound at 250-475-4321.
