The Malahat was shut for several hours last night after a collision between a truck and an RCMP vehicle.

Investigators with the RCMP South Island Traffic Services are investigating a collision between a West Shore RCMP vehicle and a pickup truck in Mill Bay.

At 6 p.m. Friday, an unmarked RCMP sport utility vehicle was travelling south on the Trans-Canada Highway when it collided with a pickup truck at the intersection with Frayne Road in Mill Bay.

The truck, driven by a 46-year-old Cobble Hill man, was heading east on Frayne Road. A six-year-old boy was also in the truck.

The police officer, the driver and the boy were taken to hospital, treated and released.

Preliminary findings suggest that the police vehicle’s emergency equipment was not activated, said Cpl. Darren Lagan, spokesman for the Island District RCMP.

Police ask anyone with information to contact the South Island Traffic Services at 250-416-0352.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. was notified, Lagan said. “But because the injuries were minor, they are not taking over the file.”
