Trans-Canada Highway reopened after crash near Mill Bay

An air ambulance landed on the Trans-Canada Highway near Mill Bay this morning to transport an injured person to hospital in Victoria after a two-vehicle collision.

Four other people were taken to hospital following the crash, in which one vehicle was T-boned on the highway south of Kilmalu Road, said Capt. Chris McInerney of the Mill Bay Fire Department.

No information regarding the extent of the injuries was available.

The highway was initially closed but one northbound lane was reopened in the late morning. Traffic was flowing both ways by about 2:30 p.m.

Southbound traffic was detoured for a time via Cobble Hill Road, Shawnigan Lake Road and Shawnigan Mill Bay Road.

Shawnigan Lake firefighters also responded, McInerney said.
