Traffic stop in Saanich leads police to drugs

What started as a traffic stop turned into a drug bust in Saanich.

A Saanich police officer pulled over a vehicle in the 3900 block of Glanford Avenue after spotting the driver disobeying a traffic sign near McKenzie Avenue last week.

Both the driver and passenger seemed nervous. The officer decided to call Const. Jason Whittaker and his police dog, Brock, who is trained in detecting drugs.

The search led to the rear of the vehicle, where a backpack was found with about 2.7 kilograms of marijuana.

A 30-year-old Surrey man and a 25-year-old man from Nanaimo were arrested. They have been released and are due in court in early May on a charge of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
