Police have arrested a man suspected of attacking a tourist in downtown Victoria on Tuesday.
Victoria police officers saw a man who matched the description given by the tourist on Tuesday night. The suspect was arrested about 10 p.m. in the 500 block of Ellice Street near Rock Bay Landing.
The 21-year-old Victoria man was kept in custody overnight. Officers are recommending a charge of assault causing bodily harm.
The victim was a 30-year-old Spanish tourist. The man was sitting in the courtyard near the city’s central library on Broughton Street when he was assaulted.
A bystander called police, but officers could not immediately find the attacker.
The tourist was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, said police spokesman Const. Mike Russell.
