Tour de Rock reaches capital region today

After a week-and-a-half up-Island, the 21 cyclists of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock ride over the Malahat to Greater Victoria on Wednesday.

The itinerary includes a 9:50 a.m. stop for a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Mill Bay centre before visits to schools throughout the West Shore and Sooke and a gala dinner at the Westin Bear Mountain.

A dozen schools are on Thursday’s agenda before a 2:20 p.m. stop at the Sidney pier. The day concludes with a Comedy for Cancer fundraiser at Sidney’s Mary Winspear Centre.

Friday’s packed itinerary includes public events at Esquimalt Plaza at 10 a.m. and Broadmead shopping centre at 11:40. The finale of the 1,100-kilometre journey will be at Centennial Square at 5 p.m.

The annual Tour de Rock raises money for pediatric cancer research, a summer camp and other Canadian Cancer Society programs for children with the disease.
