Two teenage brothers were honoured Friday for their quick thinking and bravery when fire broke out in their Fairfield home.

Thanks to the prompt actions of Sam Parker, 16, and Finn Parker, 13, everyone in the house got out safely on March 16.

After spotting the fire in the living room, Sam called out “fire” to warn Finn and grandmother Jacquie Edison.

Sam collected three-year-old Jasper, the boys’ younger brother, and took him to the backyard to keep him safe.

Finn ran to the lower floor of the house to warn tenants.

Both of the older boys attempted to put out the fire but were unsuccessful. Sam used a fire extinguisher and Finn threw water on it.

The Victoria Fire Department’s Citizens Meritorious Service Award was presented to Sam and Finn for their lifesaving efforts at the Yates Street Fire Hall on Friday.

Despite the brothers’ efforts, the McClure Street house was destroyed by the fire.
