In a video made the day after 15-year-old Justin Wendland was stabbed to death, Cory Daniel Barry tells a police interviewer that he was being followed and feared for his life.
The video was played Thursday in Barry’s ongoing B.C. Supreme Court trial for second-degree murder.
The Crown contends that Barry, now 41, stabbed the Victoria High School student twice in the chest as he waited for a bus outside the Times Colonist building on June 3, 2010.
Barry has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In the video, Barry breaks down sobbing a number of times during the interview and tells Victoria police Sgt. Mark Catto that he was walking down the street and hoping a police car would happen by to scare his pursuers off.
More of the video is scheduled to be shown in court today, when Crown prosecutors could finish up their portion of the case.
