A major autumn storm is sure to cause hardship for the homeless. Our Place shelter is staying open overnight to accommodate them.

Our Place shelter will be open overnight to offer warmth and shelter during the first big storm of the season.

Winds reaching 100 kilometres per hour and heavy rain are expected to hit Greater Victoria Sunday evening, and the shelter at 919 Pandora Ave. will remain open to house those who are most vulnerable, said Don Evans, executive director of Our Place Society.

Extra volunteers and staff will be on hand throughout the night. Anyone needing shelter, a hot meal, coffee or a place to dry off is welcome.

The Salvation Army at 525 Johnson St. is also open.
