Jeanne Socrates, the 74-year-old woman trying to set a record as the oldest person to sail alone around the world, has met a setback.

Storm damage to Socrates’ sailboat, Nereida, has forced her to turn back to complete repairs in Victoria. She is expected back on Sunday or Monday.

Socrates, left Victoria on Oct. 19 in an attempt to become the oldest person to sail, solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world. The record is currently held by Minoru Saito of Japan, who completed a successful solo circumnavigation in 2005 at the age of 71.

Socrates is already recognized as the oldest woman to complete the circumnavigation. She made the trip in 2013 when she was 70 years old, about two months shy of her birthday.
