"That is the engine laying by the ambulance and fire truck. Four lanes away from the car," says Paul McTavish, a witness to the crash on Sooke Road this morning.

A two-vehicle crash on Sooke Road at Humpback Road left one vehicle on its side on top of a cement barrier on Saturday.

One of the vehicles had its engine block torn from it, said Daren McKinney, who drove up to the scene at 8:05 a.m. just after the crash happened.

“I just saw the car on the edge of the road and the engine on the other side of the road,” McKinney said.

West Shore RCMP said the people in the vehicles had non-life-threatening injuries.

Sooke Road was closed for several hours as police investigated. It was reopened in the early afternoon.

Further details were not available.
