A City of Sidney worker is recovering after his foot was pinned between some safety equipment and the base of a manhole on Tuesday afternoon.

Sidney Fire said it responded to an “industrial accident” on Resthaven Drive near Amherst Avenue about 4 p.m.

City crews were working in a four-metre-deep excavation site as part of road improvements when a partial collapse trapped the man’s leg.

The worker was able to free himself before firefighters arrived.

Deputy fire chief Mike Harman said B.C. Ambulance paramedics treated the man for an injury to his leg.
