Shoplifter pepper sprays Walmart employee at Uptown

A Walmart employee was pepper sprayed Tuesday night after trying to stop a male from shoplifting, Saanich police said. The man was in the Uptown Walmart around 7:15 p.m.

A Walmart employee at Uptown was pepper sprayed Tuesday night after trying to stop a man from shoplifting, Saanich police said.

A Walmart employee was pepper sprayed Tuesday night after trying to stop a male from shoplifting, Saanich police said.

The man was in the Uptown Walmart around 7:15 p.m. trying to steal an item when he sprayed an employee, who suffered minor injuries. Others in the area suffered mild effects from the pepper spray. The man fled.

Saanich police were called and the store was evacuated briefly.

The man is described as Caucasian, 20 to 25 years old, six-feet tall, medium build wearing a dark jacket, black pants and a baseball hat.
