Mounties have arrested several people after busting an alleged counterfeit money operation in Maple Bay on Thursday.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP raided a house on Bazett Road in Maple Bay where it was suspected fake money was being printed.

Police found printers and scanners, printed money, and other items used to produce counterfeit currency, said North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokesman Sgt. Chris Swain.

Counterfeit Canadian and American bills were found. Mounties are working with the U.S. Secret Service on the investigation.

Officers also seized stolen items and firearms.

Several people in the home were arrested and are facing charges, police said.

RCMP said the search warrant was carried out at the residence of 41-year-old Jay Vulcan. He was arrested Monday at a store in North Cowichan, where he was allegedly trying to return items purchased with counterfeit money.

Vulcan is facing a slew of charges, including possession and use of counterfeit currency and possession of a counterfeiting instrument.

Police said he could face more charges as a result of Thursday’s search warrant.
