Save-On-Foods rolls out online grocery ordering

Saanich Save-On-Foods has launched a virtual store, allowing customers to shop for groceries online and have them delivered.

The Saanich Plaza location launched its e-commerce program on Saturday, the first Save-On-Foods in the region to offer the service. The company said it intends to launch the same service at its Tillicum store by the end of the month.

There was no indication when the three other Save-On-Foods locations in the region — University Heights, Westside Village and Fort and Foul Bay — would follow suit.

“Our customers have told us they want grocery shopping to be an easy and convenient part of their lives, and online shopping is just one way we're innovating to deliver what our customers want,” said Save-On-Foods president Darrell Jones. “Adding these stores to our e-commerce locations supports our ongoing focus on the Victoria area.”

To use the service, customers can go to saveonfoods.com or use the Shop Save-On-Foods smartphone app, where they can browse the same in-store selection of items and select a time when they will pick up their order at the store or choose the $7.95 flat-rate delivery option.

Orders are hand-picked and packed, and customers picking them up will have them loaded into their cars.

Thrifty Foods has a similar program with a $4.95 charge for pick-up orders, a $7.95 charge for next day delivery and a $9.95 charge for same-day delivery.

The Market on Yates and Millstream will deliver for free, but customers do their own shopping.
