RCMP believe the same man could be responsible for two armed robberies in Duncan last week.

On Aug. 19, a man wearing a black balaclava walked into Hank’s Handi-Mart on Canada Avenue and produced a weapon. The staff fought back, injuring the man’s arm before he fled.

Staff described the robber as white and about six feet tall, with short hair.

A few hours later, an armed man with a mask covering half his face walked into the Liquor Depot on Cowichan Way, about a kilometre away from the convenience store.

He made demands to staff and fled the scene with several items. He was wearing a blue hoodie, sunglasses and black shorts with a grey stripe, and carrying a bag.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP responded to both robberies but were not able to make any arrests. “Given the time frames and multiple similarities, we suspect it is the same person, but this cannot be confirmed at this time,” said Cpl. Kiel Pharis.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
