B.C. Ferries cancelled two sailings on the Departure Bay-Horseshoe Bay run Monday after a man died aboard the Queen of Oak Bay.

Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien said the sudden death on the ferry is not considered to be suspicious.

The death occurred on the ferry from Horseshoe Bay. The body was found by employees of the Queen of Oak Bay after the ferry docked in Nanaimo’s Departure Bay at about 8 a.m., said O’Brien.

Both the RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating the death.

B.C. Ferries sent out a notice that the Queen of Oak Bay’s 8:30 a.m. sailing leaving Departure Bay and the 10:30 a.m. sailing leaving Horseshoe Bay had both been cancelled due to a medical emergency involving a passenger.

The Queen of Oak Bay was back in service for its 12:30 p.m. sailing from Departure Bay.
