Saanich police to ‘cram the cruiser’ with food, toys

While police cruisers typically transport bad guys, Saanich police are asking the public to “cram the cruiser” with food, toys and gift cards to support families in the community.

While police cruisers typically transport bad guys, Saanich police are asking the public to “cram the cruiser” with food, toys and gift cards to support families in the community.

School liaison officers are organizing the two-day donation drive, which takes place between 9 and 11 a.m. at Pacific Christian School today and the same time on Thursday at Colquitz Middle School.

Donations being accepted include non-perishable food, new toys and gift cards.

All items donated at today’s event will support the Mustard Seed food bank.

Donations from Thursday’s Colquitz Middle School event will support the Burnside Gorge Community Association’s Christmas hamper program.

The association provides hampers for between 80 and 100 families each year, said executive director Suzanne Cole.

“This is the first year [partnering with Saanich police], so we’re very excited,” Cole said.
