Saanich is a step closer to webcasting of its council meetings — something that councils in Victoria, Oak Bay, Sooke and Esquimalt already provide.

Bids close Monday for contractors to supply and install a media system for Saanich Municipal Hall’s council chambers with a five-year labour and material warranty, and initial training for operating the system.

The system would allow the municipality to broadcast its meetings on the Internet.

Several companies attended a recent site visit required to submit proposals including Microserve, Houle Electric, Pacific Audio Works and Sharp’s Audio Visual.

According to the municipality, council chambers require “a complete new retrofit” including an audio reinforcement system, conference microphone system, video distribution system, production camera capture system and controls to easily operate all systems from a minimum of two central locations within the chambers.
