Charges have been laid against two men in relation to the seizure of more than $500,000 in illegal drugs last year.
The men were arrested last June by B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit — sometimes referred to as the province’s anti-gang force — after being apprehended during the execution of a search warrant on Peatt Road in Langford.
A residence a block away on Claude Road and one on Heatherdale Road in Saanich were also searched. Officers were especially concerned that the Claude Road residence was adjacent to a daycare.
Police said a total of $542,000 worth of drugs was seized, including two kilograms of cocaine, 12.7 kilograms of marijuana, crystal meth, ecstasy pills and GHB — also known as the “date-rape” drug — along with ammunition and two shoulder holsters.
Ali Arash Ziaee, a 26-year-old Saanich man, and 36-year-old Zachary Scott Matheson of Langford have both been charged with four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. Ziaee is also facing an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance.
The men are scheduled to appear March 13 in Western Communities provincial court.
