Royal Roads University is beginning the search for a new president to take over from Allan Cahoon.
It’s expected the new president and vice-chancellor will be named in the spring and installed in January 2019, at which point Cahoon will return to teaching.
Cahoon arrived at Royal Roads in 2007 to take the combined role of president and vice-chancellor. He previously held the position of vice-president research at the University of Regina. He taught commerce and political science at the University of Saskatchewan and in the faculty of management at the University of Calgary.
He is the third person to fill the role of president at Royal Roads University.
Kathleen Birney, Royal Roads’ chancellor, described Cahoon as a tireless advocate for students, a strong ambassador for the university and a champion for diversity.
Th university plans to begin its search for a new president on Friday, with a townhall meeting of staff and faculty to discuss the qualities needed to lead the university into the next decade.
