Road closures Sunday for Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria

The fifth annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria takes to the streets Sunday with about 1,500 cyclists taking part. Participants will be following routes of 45, 85 or 140 kilometres. The 140-km ride starts at 7 a.m.

The fifth annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria takes to the streets Sunday with about 1,500 cyclists taking part.

Participants will be following routes of 45, 85 or 140 kilometres. The 140-km ride starts at 7 a.m. on Belleville Street, the 85-km ride gets underway about 9 a.m. from Western Speedway in Langford, and the 45-km ride begins about 11 a.m. from Iroquois Park in Sidney. All of the routes end downtown. The entire event is expected to be complete by 3:30 p.m. The routes will wind through Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula. Motorists are advised to expect minor delays.

The event is not a race, but rather a supported ride and all cyclists are required to obey the rules of the road. For more road information, go to tourdevictoria.com/traffic.

Victoria: 6:50-7:10 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling on Belleville Street, Government Street, Gorge Road East.

Victoria Inner Harbour: Streets around the Inner Harbour will be affected from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ferry traffic bound for Port Angeles and Seattle will enter off Oswego.

Saanich: 7:05-7:20 a.m. — Gorge Road West. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

View Royal: 7:10-7:30 a.m. — Island Highway and Old Island Highway. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Colwood: 7:15-8:15 a.m. — Ocean Boulevard, Lagoon Road, Metchosin Road. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Metchosin: 7:30-9:15 a.m. — Metchosin Road, Duke Road, William Head Road, Lombard Drive, Rocky Point Road, Liberty Drive, Lindholm Road, Happy Valley Road. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Langford: 7:50-9:45 a.m. — Happy Valley Road, Glen Lake Road, Leigh Road, Goldstream Avenue, Atkins Avenue. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Langford: 9:15-9:30am — Millstream Road from Western Speedway to Munn Road. Vehicle traffic permitted southbound. Cyclists will be travelling north from Western Speedway into the Highlands.

View Royal: 8:10-10 a.m. — Atkins Road and Burnside Road West. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Saanich: 8:15-10 a.m. — Burnside Road West, Prospect Lake Road and Munn Road. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Highlands: 8:15-10:45 a.m. — Munn Road. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling.

Highlands: 8:15-10:45 a.m. — Northbound traffic only on Millstream Lake Road and Ross Durrance Road (between Munn Road and Willis Point Road). This is THE SAME DIRECTION as cyclists.

Highlands: 8:15-10:45 a.m. — Two-way traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Road controlled by traffic control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Road and Willis Point Road to exit to Wallace Drive.

Saanich: 8:45-11:20 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Drive. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Road controlled by traffic control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Road and Willis Point Road to exit to Wallace Drive.)

Central Saanich: 8:50-11:30 a.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Drive, Garden Gate Drive, Benvenuto Avenue, West Saanich Road, and Old West Saanich Road. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on West Saanich Road.)

Saanich (west of Patrica Bay Highway): 9 a.m.-1:20 p.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling with two-way traffic allowed on West Saanich Road when needed. Cyclists travel on Old West Saanich Road, Spartan Road, Prospect Lake Road, Burnside Road, Charlton Road, Granville Avenue, Hastings Street, North Road, Interurban Road, Hector Road, Conway Road, Quayle Road, Beaver Lake Road, West Saanich Road, Old West Saanich Road, Oldfield Road, Doyle Road, Forest Hill Road, Elkwood Road, Brookleigh Road and Hamsterly Road.

Saanich (Patrica Bay Highway and Sayward Road): 9:40 a.m.-1:20 p.m. — Intersection will be controlled by traffic control personnel. Traffic will still be able to travel the Patricia Bay Highway both northbound and southbound, but expect some delays. Eastbound traffic on Sayward Road will be closed on both sides of the highway.

Saanich (east of Patricia Bay Highway): 9:40 a.m.-2:15 p.m. — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling. Cyclists travel on Sayward Avenue, Cordova Bay Road, Ash Road, Grandview Drive, Ferndale Road, Gordon Head Road, Arbutus Road, Queenswood Drive, Telegraph Bay Road and Cadboro Bay Road. Please note that Cadboro Bay Road, between Sinclair Road and Beach Drive, will allow two-way traffic where needed to relieve traffic build up.

Oak Bay: 10 a.m.-2:50 p.m. — Full road closing on Beach Drive and King George Terrace. Access to Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Oak Bay Marina, Oak Bay Beach Hotel and Victoria Golf Club will be controlled by traffic control personnel.

Victoria: 10 a.m.-3:30pm. — Full road closings on Crescent Road, Hollywood Crescent, Dallas Road and waterfront perimeter of James Bay including Erie Street, Street Lawrence Street, Kingston Street, Montreal Street, Quebec Street, Pendray Street and Belleville Street.

Sidney and North Saanich: 11-11:30 a.m. — Traffic will be permitted on 5th Avenue and Lochside Drive in both directions. Please drive with caution as there will up to 300 cyclists riding from Sidney Lions Food Bank southbound toward Central Saanich.

Central Saanich: 11 a.m.-12 noon — Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction cyclists will be travelling on Lochside Drive, Martindale Road, Welch Road, Hunt Road.
