Rifle, bow stolen from truck at Salt Spring Island ferry terminal

Police are looking for a man and a woman who allegedly took a compound bow and a rifle from a pickup truck that they stole from a ferry parking lot on Salt Spring Island.

Police are looking for a man and a woman who allegedly took a compound bow and a rifle from a pickup truck that they stole from a ferry parking lot on Salt Spring Island.

Two people entered several unlocked vehicles at the Long Harbour terminal on Salt Spring Island about 7 p.m. Tuesday, said RCMP Cpl. Darren Lagan. One of the vehicles, a 2015 Ford F150, had the keys inside and was driven from the lot.

The stolen pickup was found near the Fulford ferry terminal. A large black plastic case containing a compound bow and 24 arrows, and a .22-calibre rifle were missing from the truck.

Police believe the pair walked onto a ferry, arriving in Swartz Bay at 7:50 p.m., then boarded a ferry bound for Tsawwassen, arriving there at 10:40 p.m.

Surveillance footage provided by B.C. Ferries shows two people on the ferry carrying a large black case.

The male suspect is described as white, with short hair shaved at the sides, about six feet tall with an athletic build. He was wearing a light blue jacket over a navy hooded sweatshirt and salmon-coloured pants with white running shoes.

The female suspect is described as about five-foot-two with a fair complexion and long dark hair. She was wearing a dark jacket over a blue hooded sweatshirt, light blue jeans and black running shoes with pink laces.

Police believe the bow and rifle were not stored properly. “Any time that firearms fall into the wrong hands, it is of concern to police,” Lagan said. “Along with investigating the pair of suspects in this theft, officers are also investigating the apparent unsecured storage of the firearms prior to their theft.”

Salt Spring Island RCMP have notified police in the Lower Mainland of the theft and the suspects’ last known location.

Anyone with information on the identity of the pair is asked to contact the Salt Spring Island RCMP at 250-537-5555 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
