Police were called to a home in North Saanich after receiving reports of a man with a firearm.
Sidney/North Saanich RCMP and the Central Saanich police responded to the Wednesday call, which was made by family members concerned for the safety of the man, who they said was intoxicated.
The man had left the Pauquachin Lane home by the time police arrived. He was tracked through the brush with the help of a police dog.
As a precaution, West Saanich Road was closed to traffic during the search.
Police found the man at the home of another family member in North Saanich. He was taken into custody without incident.
He is facing a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and a charge of careless use of a firearm.
A court appearance has been set for Jan. 13.
