Sidney/North Saanich RCMP are looking for witnesses who saw a vehicle hit a trailer and several signs before coming to rest in a ditch on Saturday.

Several citizens called 911 about 3:30 p.m. to report a black Ford pickup being driven erratically on East Saanich Road, said Cpl. Chris Manseau.

B.C. Ambulance paramedics and RCMP arrived on scene. A drug recognition expert was called to determine whether the man was impaired by drugs or alcohol.

The driver refused to co-operate, resulting in a charge of refusal to comply with demand and operating a vehicle while impaired, Manseau said.

Police also seized drugs found in the car, and RCMP said the driver could face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Anyone who witnessed the erratic driving is asked to call Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
