Port Hardy RCMP are continuing to investigate the disappearance of 45-year-old Ryan MacDonald, who was reported missing on April 9.

He had made plans to go to his remote cabin at Alice Lake on Friday, April 6, and police were called when he failed to show up for work the ensuing Monday.

MacDonald’s boat was later found overturned in an area of heavy rapids on nearby Marble River. The two dogs that had been with him were recovered alive.

Police believe he had been launching his boat but had some sort of emergency and was swept away in the river’s strong current.

MacDonald’s disappearance led to an extensive search including search-and-rescue units from Campbell River and Comox, the Canadian Coast Guard, and the RCMP West Coast Marine Unit and Underwater Recovery Team. A RCMP helicopter and drone were also involved.

Police said the area is a well-known recreation site and they would like to hear from anyone who was there from April 6-9 who might have information. As well, anyone locating an item in the area that they believe could be connected to MacDonald is also asked to contact them at 250-949-6335.
